News outlets have historically struggled to monetize their online content due to spoiled users who expect free access everywhere they go.
But this issue is nothing new; porn also experienced similar changes years ago.
Louisiana porn law
Louisiana is making waves in its fight against online porn hot news by becoming the first state to require government-issued ID before viewing websites with adult content. Lawmakers believe this legislation will safeguard children against becoming exposed to such material.
Internet and social media researcher Jordan Taylor believes it’s an ideal measure for states across the nation to adopt, as an effective way for the government to influence sites that host user-generated content to proactively police against any content that could potentially contain pornography.
Act 440, which came into force on New Year’s Day, aims to prevent minors from accessing porn. It holds companies responsible for websites that contain „substantial portions of pornographic material”, defined as three percent or more of their overall content.
Republican Representative Laurie Schlegel’s law requires websites operating from Louisiana IP addresses to implement age verification processes for users accessing them, or it could face being sued under Louisiana state law. If any website fails to do this, they could face being held liable and sued under this legislation.
However, it remains unclear which sites will be affected by this new law. Pornhub has implemented age verification processes while other sites have yet to follow suit.
Though Louisiana law restricts websites with IP addresses located within its boundaries from hosting pornographic content, you can bypass its reach using a virtual private network (VPN) to change your location and gain access to porn content freely and anonymously.
Though Act 440 may seem like a sensible solution, experts remain concerned over users who lack access to government ID. Furthermore, since it does not specify what constitutes „pornography”, Act 440 could impact content posted to social media or other online services.
Germany’s anti-porn law
Germany’s anti-porn law has had devastating repercussions for those working in online porn production and distribution. The Commission for the Protection of Minors in Media has sent legal notices to social media platforms like Twitter and Reddit demanding they remove content relating to sexually-charged news stories if users cannot be verified as aged 18+.
Under this law, social media providers are mandated to inform law enforcement of sites containing child pornography and collect names, addresses and contact information of anyone uploading such content publicly via their services – prompting many content creators to refrain from using popular platforms like Twitter and Reddit for posting public pornographic material. This has lead to many content producers opting out from publicly accessible websites altogether.
Germany’s government has long required Internet companies to filter content and censored many White Nationalist and Nazi-related sites, prompting criticism by certain groups as an act of censorship that harms social cohesion both domestically and internationally.
The Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (PACE) issued a resolution regarding this topic in September 2018. It recommended that schools offer comprehensive sexuality education to protect students against negative impacts of pornographic information and develop critical thinking tools. In addition, age verification on all porn websites was demanded as well as government programs to educate children about its dangers.
Balenciaga’s sexualization of children
Balenciaga has recently caused much debate with their child-centric ad campaigns that include children. This year alone they have released two controversial ads featuring children: one includes wearing BDSM gear while another features children with wine glasses and flasks nearby. Both were met with strong criticism.
These ads are particularly upsetting because they illustrate child exploitation. One photo depicts a child holding onto a teddy bear wearing bondage gear with padlock, harness and fishnet top for bondage; this has caused widespread outrage and shown how sexualization of children is becoming mainstream.
Celebrities have also taken notice of Balenciaga’s activities. Kim Kardashian recently stated that she plans on „reevaluating” her relationship with them.
Balenciaga’s recent ad campaign has caused considerable commotion, not least because it directly violates US Supreme Court ruling against child pornography, while also seeming like an attempt by designer Demna Gvasalia to normalize sexualization of children.
Balenciaga has taken much criticism recently, yet it is important to remember that they have earned themselves a reputation for being cutting edge. Nicole Kidman and Bella Hadid have worn pieces by Balenciaga before; some even own multiple items themselves!
The controversy surrounding the ad campaign serves as a stark reminder that very few entities appear to care about morally sound business practices when conducting their businesses, with companies more focused on making money than on protecting children. Therefore, it’s essential that consumers monitor fashion industry activities to make sure that companies are doing right by them and their consumers.

Pope Francis delivered an unusually harsh address to Catholic seminarians this week, in which he strongly warned them against digital temptations such as online porn and digital temptations that weaken souls. Additionally, he cautioned them to delete anything that could tempt them towards viewing pornographic material from their phones and avoid temptation altogether.
Francis may be preaching to the converted, but his comments serve as a timely reminder of all the strands in Christian thought that have been forgotten during recent controversies over sexual ethics. They demonstrate that Francis has yet to develop a truly original view on sexual ethics – echoing instead what ten young people told him they thought in an online film interview earlier in 2017.
Francis has taken an important step in the right direction by affirming Christian marriage and family as the highest form of sexual expression. This goes far beyond reinforcing Catholic idealisations of celibacy/chastity as models for Christian perfection; rather, it stresses God does not exclude anyone and it is up to each person themselves to accept that they are his child.
